Home ground. Delivery timing is confirmed when you order, and we know which streets a sidelifter can and can't get down.
Around Mackay it's mostly household storage through renovations, tradie lockups, and overflow for businesses along the Nebo Road corridor. Whatever the job, the process doesn't change: one call, one delivered price with the freight in it, and the right truck matched to your access.

Guide pricing only — what you pay delivered depends on where you are and what's in the yard that week. Ring (07) 4944 2211 and we'll give you a real number, not a range. Freight to Mackay is quoted with the container, so the number you're given is the number you pay.

Most Mackay enquiries come from people who have run out of room at the wrong moment. A kitchen renovation in Andergrove that needs the contents of three rooms put somewhere dry. A family in Beaconsfield between houses. A small business near the CBD whose stockroom has quietly become a corridor. None of these jobs need anything clever, but they do need a box that locks, keeps the rain out and fits on the block without taking out the letterbox.
Tradies are the second big group. Sparkies, plumbers and chippies working across the new estates at Rural View and Ooralea want a lockup on site so the tools and materials aren't carted home every night, and so there's a dry place for plasterboard and fittings when the afternoon storms roll in off the range. A 20ft on the edge of a building pad does that job for the length of the build.
Then there are the businesses along Nebo Road and around the harbour side of town: workshops, marine businesses near the harbour and Slade Point, and the retail and hire operators who need overflow storage for seasonal stock. For them a container is often cheaper and faster than extending a shed or renting a storage unit across town.
The thing that decides a city delivery is rarely distance. It's the last twenty metres. Older streets in North and West Mackay have narrow frontages, big mango and poinciana trees over the kerb, and power lines that sag lower than people think. A tilt-tray needs clearance above as it tips, so an overhanging branch or a low service wire can rule out a spot that looks perfectly roomy from the ground.
Newer estates are usually easier to get into but have their own quirks: freshly laid driveways that the owner doesn't want a loaded truck on, soft fill on unbuilt lots, and council footpaths with drainage pits in exactly the wrong place. If your block is on a corner, tell us which street the gate faces, because it changes how the truck sets up.
Most suburban blocks in Mackay take a 20ft on a tilt-tray without drama. The simplest thing you can do is send a couple of phone photos: one from the street looking in, one of the spot where you want it. That usually answers the access question before anyone has to drive out. There's a longer rundown in what we need to get a container onto your block.
Mackay gets the bulk of its rain between roughly December and April, and when it rains here it really rains. The low-lying parts of South Mackay and the streets closest to the Pioneer River know what that means. A container is only as dry as the ground it sits on allows: set it down in a hollow and water pools under the floor, the bearers rust and the doors start to bind.
Put it on the highest practical point of the block, on four solid supports under the corner castings (concrete pads, sleepers or pavers), with a slight fall towards the doors so rain runs off rather than sitting on the roof. A cargo-worthy container is watertight against rain coming from above. It is not a defence against rising water: floodwater gets in past the door seals, and an empty box can float. If your block has gone under before, height is the only protection that counts.
Cyclone season is the other half of the conversation. A loaded container is heavy and sits well, but a light or empty one on an exposed site should be tied down to ground anchors, and doors should be shut and locked when a system is forecast. We can talk you through tie-down options when you order. Our wet season guide goes through it step by step.
For household storage during a renovation or a move, a 20ft is the default: it holds the contents of a typical three-bedroom house if it's packed carefully, and it travels on a standard tilt-tray. If the only spot available is a narrow side access or the back corner of a small lot, a 10ft will fit where nothing else will, although it costs more than a 20ft because it's cut down and rebuilt.
Businesses that need racking or a proper workspace should look at a high cube. The extra headroom makes the difference between a box you reach into and one you can stand up and work in. A 40ft is rarely practical on a suburban lot because it arrives on a sidelifter and needs a lot of room, but it suits commercial yards around the city.
If the storage need has an end date, such as a renovation, a move or a build, hiring is usually the tidy answer. You use it, we collect it, and there's nothing to sell or dispose of afterwards. Hire units are cargo-worthy grade, wind and watertight. If the need is open-ended, buying generally comes out ahead within a couple of years, and a well-kept container holds its value.
We quote both ways if you're unsure. The sales and hire page sets out roughly where the maths turns over. Delivery and collection are quoted with the container: tell us the suburb and the access and we'll give you one delivered figure. The day is confirmed when you order, based on stock and the truck schedule.
Usually, yes. Most house blocks take a 20ft on a tilt-tray if there's around 3.5 metres of clear width, a straight run in and nothing low overhead. Send a photo of the driveway and the drop spot and we'll confirm the truck before you order.
For short-term storage during a move or a build, usually not, but permanent placement, stacking or anything you plan to fit out can trigger planning or building rules. Check with Mackay Regional Council for your specific lot before settling on a permanent spot.
On the highest practical ground, raised on solid supports under the corners. A cargo-worthy container keeps rain out from above but floodwater gets in past the door seals, so height is the only real protection for what's inside.
Delivery is quoted with the container and depends on the address and the access. You get one delivered price up front, and the delivery day is confirmed when you order.
