Shipping containers delivered to Seaforth

North of the city on the coast. Salt air eats a tin shed, so steel earns its keep up here — sited high and anchored with the cyclone season in mind.

What Seaforth uses them for

Around Seaforth it's mostly boat gear, holiday home storage, and secure dry storage for anything that lives near the salt. Whatever the job, the process doesn't change: one call, one delivered price with the freight in it, and the right truck matched to your access.

Fishing, holiday homes and a long way to the shops

Seaforth is a small coastal village north of Mackay, close to Cape Hillsborough National Park and the beaches at Halliday Bay and Ball Bay. It's a place people come for fishing, boating and quiet, and the containers we deliver there are mostly for the things that go with that life: boats, outboards, trailers, crab pots, kayaks, rods and the tools that keep them running.

Many properties are holiday homes or weekenders. Owners want a secure store that doesn't need a builder, keeps gear safe between visits, and can take a bit of neglect. A container that's locked and sited properly does that better than a garden shed, which in salt air tends to rust through at the fixings within a few years.

The rural blocks behind the coast, out towards Mount Jukes and Yakapari, add the usual rural demand for feed, fencing and machinery storage.

Coastal roads, sand and salt

The road in is sealed, and most village blocks are reasonably flat, but coastal lots have their own challenges. Sandy ground can look firm and still let a truck dig in once the container starts to tip, and mature trees along the streets can limit overhead clearance. Blocks close to the foreshore are often narrow, with the best spot for a container at the back behind the house.

If your block is sandy, a firm, level pad under the container's corners matters doubly, because the supports will settle unevenly in soft sand. A few pavers or concrete pads, or a compacted gravel base, make a big difference. Keep the container away from low ground where water collects after a storm.

Rural properties back from the coast are usually simple: a farm gate, a gravel track and room to turn. The main things to mention are narrow gates, creek crossings and power lines near the house.

Salt air, cyclones and looking after steel

Salt air is hard on anything metal. A container on the coast lasts well if you keep the paint intact, treat scratches and chips before rust gets going, and keep the roof clear of leaves and sand that hold moisture. Lift it off the ground on supports so air can move underneath, which keeps the floor bearers drier.

Seaforth is exposed to the cyclone season like the rest of this coast. A heavily loaded container is stable, but a light one, or one on an exposed rise, should be tied down to ground anchors. When a system is forecast, shut and lock the doors. A cargo-worthy container keeps rain out from above. Storm surge and floodwater are a different matter: they get in past the door seals, and an empty container can float, so height and distance from the water are what protect your gear. The wet season guide has more detail.

Sizes for boats and beach gear

A 20ft holds a lot of fishing and camping gear if it's racked, and it suits most village blocks. For a small boat on a trailer, measure first: the internal width and the door opening decide what fits, and the dimensions page has the numbers. A 40ft gives more length for a bigger boat or a combined boat-and-workshop, but it needs room for a sidelifter.

On a tight lot, a 10ft is the one that fits beside the house. If you want to use the container as a bunkroom or a studio for visitors, read our guide to container cabins first, because approvals and heat need planning.

Buying, hiring and getting it there

Most Seaforth customers buy, because the storage is long-term. Cargo-worthy used units are wind and watertight. As-is units cost less, but they're sold as seen and not sold watertight, so keep them for gear that doesn't mind a bit of damp. Hire suits renovations or temporary needs, and hire units go out cargo-worthy, wind and watertight. The sales and hire page sets out the trade-off.

Deliveries to Seaforth run north from Mackay. Freight is quoted with the container for your address, and the day is confirmed at order.

Seaforth questions we get asked

Will a container last near the beach at Seaforth?

Yes, with basic care. Keep the paint intact, treat chips early, keep the roof clear of leaves and sand, and sit it on supports so air can move underneath.

Should a container be tied down on the coast?

A light or empty container on an exposed coastal site should be anchored before cyclone season. Heavily loaded containers are more stable but still need firm, level supports.

Can I store a boat in a shipping container?

Often, yes. Check the boat and trailer width and height against the door opening and internal dimensions first. A 40ft suits longer boats if the block has room for a sidelifter.

Do you deliver to Halliday Bay and Ball Bay?

Yes. Send photos of the street and drop spot, especially on sandy or narrow blocks, and we'll confirm the right truck.
